Majors Don and Mary Burlock started the Chattanooga Women's Auxiliary in the fall of 1985. The Auxiliary, an extension of the Advisory Board, is comprised of outstanding women in the community who through their influence or activity further the work of The Salvation Army. The Women's Auxiliary has provided thousands of hours of volunteer service, served thousands of children, seniors and parents through the Angel Tree program and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for The Salvation Army.
The purpose of the Auxiliary is to raise public awareness of The Salvation Army, to facilitate services to the needy and to strengthen the financial base of the local Salvation Army. Members are recommended by the Auxiliary's membership committee and approved by the executive committee. The Women's Auxiliary of the Tennessee Valley currently has over 30 members.
A major fundraising event sponsored by the Women's Auxiliary is the annual Purse Auction.
