With 1,149 Angels Left to be Adopted, Angel Tree Deadline is Extended and Salvation Army Finds 37 One Hundred Dollar Bills in Red Kettle

Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga and Cleveland Salvation Army Angel Tree Program Deadline to adopt an Angel for this Christmas 2012 was this Sunday, December 4. However, with 1,149 Angels still needing to be adopted, the deadline has been extended to December 9! The Salvation Army Angel Tree provides Christmas assistance for needy children, their families and senior citizens who would not otherwise receive gifts including necessities like food and warm clothing.

The local Salvation Army registered 4,763 Angels this year, a 39% increase from three years ago. There have been 3614 Angels adopted so far, but the deadline to adopt and return gifts is just over a week away. Angels Trees are located at Hamilton Place Mall , Northgate Mall  and Bradley Square Mall .

"We are asking the community to really be generous during these last few days of Angel Tree so all the Angels will be adopted and have a wonderful Christmas," said Major Teresa Newsome, Associate Area Commander. "We also need for those who have adopted Angels to return these gifts as soon as they possibly can."

Secret Santa is helping The Salvation Army get closer to its Red Kettle Goal of $400,000.00. "I want to say a big 'Thank You' to the anonymous donor who yesterday dropped thirty-seven one hundred dollar bills in the red kettle outside of the Fort Oglethorpe, GA K-Mart store located on Battlefield Parkway," states Major Al Newsome, Area Commander for The Salvation Army. "This will certainly help us get closer to our goal of $400,000.00 for this year's Red Kettle Campaign."

Monetary donations are needed to purchase gifts for children and seniors. Donations can be placed in any of the Red Kettles, mailed to 822 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403 , given online at  or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY .
