The Salvation Army's 614 Corps' ReCreate Café Presents "Christmas Memories: A Playback Theatre Performance for the Homeless and Non-Homeless."
Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga's Salvation Army 614 Corps' ReCreate Café will present Christmas Memories: A Playback Theatre Performance for the Homeless and Non-Homeless on Sunday, December 6 at 12:30 and 7:00 PM.
The Salvation Army ReCreate Café continues to bring innovative artistic programming to the Chattanooga community seeking to serve all peoples of the city regardless of their housing situation. The Café is now presenting Playback Theatre, a form of Improvisational Theatre where actors enact stories from the audience on the spot to both entertain and enlighten audiences. The stories can range from humorous to touching with anything in between. The content of the upcoming shows will focus on Christmas Memories, and it is up to the audience what they choose to share.
ReCreate Café's Artistic Director, Tenika Dye, said, "Our job is to respectively reflect an audience's shared stories while also creating a unique moment of theatricality. Playback Theatre has the ability to bond an audience and demonstrate how all people are really more alike than they are different. It's an incredible experience to have a story from your life enacted and played back for you. It gives people an opportunity to be seen and heard, something I believe we all long for."
ReCreate Café has been able to expand their use of Playback Theatre due to a Community Cultural Connections (CCC) Grant provided by Arts Build of Chattanooga.
All persons living in Greater Chattanooga, whether homeless or housed, are invited to the two performances on December 6 at 12:30 PM and 7:00 PM. The 12:30 PM show will immediately follow The Salvation Army 614 Corps' church service and lunch served to the homeless.
Tickets: "Pay What You Can." All are welcome regardless of what they can pay. The suggested minimum donation is $5 per person at the door and will benefit The Salvation Army ReCreate Café Arts Program, which seeks to bridge the gap between the homeless and artistic communities of Chattanooga through the power of the arts. The ReCreate Café is located at 800 McCallie Avenue across from the UTC campus.
