School of Music and Arts

Music enriches our lives. Learning to play music instills self-discipline, builds self-esteem, increases self-confidence and encourages leadership. One of the exciting ministries of The Salvation Army in Chattanooga is the School of Music & Arts (SOMA). SOMA is changing young lives at the Citadel Corps Community Center on North Moore Road.

The School of Music & Arts offers class instruction to third through twelfth graders each Tuesday evening during two semesters that correspond to the school year. Depending on school grade students take a major class, select two or four elective classes and participate in a Christian devotional. The major class for grades 3-5 is General Music Introduction and recorder. Students in grades 6-12 are enrolled in Brass Band as their major class. Elective classes include guitar, percussion, piano, and art. Art classes cover a variety of media and art history.

The School of Music & Arts Program starts August 14 and goes through December 11. SOMA is every Tuesday from 6 pm - 8 pm at the Citadel Corps. Registration is $50 per semester or $80 for the whole year.
