Going Deeper From 'Words of Life'
Our faith, our belief, rests on the fact that Christ has ‘been raised’. This is the proof of his divinity. If he has not risen, we would have every right to doubt his deity. But it is all true.
Paul wanted this truth to be embraced by the Corinthian church. To have this realisation permeate all that they did, all that they were in Christ. For Christ’s sovereignty is based on his resurrection. Our justification is guaranteed by Christ’s victory over death. Regeneration can only be a reality because of Jesus’ resurrection. And of course our ultimate resurrection rests in the assurance of Christ’s resurrection. Without this there would be no future hope for the Corinthians, or for any of us.
The silver thread of the Resurrection runs through all our blessings – from our salvation, to our sanctification, and then to our ultimate glorification. It brings everything together. Isn’t this cause for great rejoicing?
Victory is ours! The promise, fulfilled. Redemption’s work is done – it’s complete.
When asked about his divine authority, Jesus told the Jewish leaders that he would be raised from the dead:
‘destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days’ … the temple he had spoken of was his body (John 2:19, 21).
Jesus spoke only truth; for he was, and is, God. The ‘Lamb of God’ who came to die, then be raised to live again – in order to take away the sin of the world. Christ’s resurrection did take place. Because of this, we too will be resurrected. And one day we will live with him, for ever!
Prayer
Thank you, Father God, for raising your Son so that one day I too will be resurrected. Victory will indeed be mine. Hallelujah!
